Media plays an important role in society as agent of change, governance, development and transformation. Further, media roles include playing the roles of monitor and vigilant informer in the collection and publishing of information of potential interest to the public. Further, the media has the facilitative role of supporting and strengthening civil society that often challenges authority and voices support for reform on one hand and the collaborative role that creates partnerships between journalists and centres of power in society. Journalism concentration provides knowledge and experience in the profession of journalism with emphasis on excellent writing, original reporting, and innovative use of digital tools for storytelling. The media studies concentration emphasizes critical, cultural, historical, legal, ethical and social scientific analysis of media and society while also providing experience in media production.
Founded on the belief that arts and culture contribute to economic development, the Technical University of Kenya focuses on training personnel in art and creative skills that can be transferred to other professional settings.
